I was reading the forums of the infamous Two Peas in a Bucket scrapbooking website and someone posted about a hilarious post from the blog 15 Minute Lunch. I went and read it and the gist of it is, this guy was installing an exhaust fan in his wife's grandfather's house and found a 1977 JC Penney catalog in the insulation. He shares some truly unbelievable examples of fashion and style from 1977. Here's just a taste for you:
And it's not like these pics are from Vogue or some high fashion magazine, this is from Penney's. Which would lead one to the logical conclusion that people actually purchased and wore this stuff.
Anyway, there's more pics and hilarious commentary to go with them, however, be warned there is foul language. (If the language bothers you, at least go and scroll through the pics, they're plenty funny on their own.) Check it out: 15 Minute Lunch
Edited to add: I kinda like those "barrel" chairs and table!
The end.

Ah yes, the Bert & Ernie look. I remember it well. My mom did actually have a striped bathrobe something like that.
ReplyDeleteThen again, at least people wore CLOTHES back then! Have you seen the anti-clothing of today's catalogs? lol We've come a long way, baby?!
When I was about 14, I didn't have a suit, I had a Leisure Suit (in powder blue). It was considered normal then.
ReplyDeleteThink Don Knotts' Mr. Furley character on Three's Company.
OMG - lol - I am so glad we're past that stage. I sure hope that style doesn't come back!!
ReplyDeleteROFL that's too funny!!
ReplyDeleteMore relieved than you will ever know that we have no J.C. Penney in Canada :) Though, I'm sure Eaton's (at the time) offered the same, or worse. Truly frightening!
