Thoughts on my blog...

So, I've been blogging since March. I've also made a concerted effort to READ a lot of blogs, to get ideas, inspiration, and try to figure out what makes a good blog.

My observations:
  • There's a LOT of lame blogs out there. I was surprised it took a lot more hunting than I thought to find some good blogs.
  • There are SOME really GOOD blogs out there! I spend waaaay too much time sometimes reading them...
  • I notice there are quite a bit of blogs that do the pay-per-post thing. I don't hate it, but it's kinda weird - like a commercial in a blog. I know they're written so that they don't sound like a commercial, but you can still tell... I wonder how much money can be made by doing this? I haven't investigated it.
  • A lot of blogs have all sorts of little awards and nominations and blinkies and such in their sidebars. I have none of that (other than my attempts at blog traffic with Entrecard and BlogUpp). Am I lame, or does anyone really care about that? Do people come to my blog and say, "Oh, she wasn't nominated for "Coolest Blog With a Cow" and she's not a "Posh Mommy" so this blog CAN'T possibly be any good"? I know I could download some of them myself, although I think I'd need to turn this into a 3 column blog to make room. I wonder would I have more credibility if I did that?
  • Quite a few blogs I visit do giveaways. That seems kinda fun. Maybe I'll try that sometime. Not sure what I'd give away though?
  • No one's tagged me with a Meme yet. I'm a tiny bit sad about that. Maybe someday. Maybe if I had blinkies and awards? Sigh.
  • Lastly, quite a few blogs I visit have very long posts. Admittedly though, they don't usually post each day. Whereas I post (usually) shorter posts, but I do post nearly every day. Is one better than another? A few long, thought out and profound posts a week, or nice short inane ones every day?
Speaking of inane, I've rambled on long enough. If anyone has any constructive criticism or thoughts to share, go for it.

The end.

  1. Hello there, I was dropping EC's and glanced over your post. I do work for PPP and have no problem with it when I can find something I want to post about, it is extra spending money and yes it is just as bad as a commercial, but I usually skip over them when I read someone elses blog unless something catches my eye and I use Entrecard and just started with BlogUpp and I have no awards and I hate being tagged for meme's. Have a great night and happy blogging.

  2. Hiya Carole, I recognize you from a comment on one of my blogs. I like your blog, and I like your cow. :) I'll tag you for a meme first change I get!

I work for PPP, and a few other pay-to-blog companies. At first it was more like a hobby, but it saved the day when my husband got his hours cut in December. I earn about $500 a month with PPP, FYI. It buys our groceries!

P.S. I'm glad you don't have all those buttons and blinkies. Most of them drive me beserk!

  3. Thanks to both of you for your input - I had NO IDEA one could make that much money with PPP! I'm going to definitely check into that...!

And thanks for the cow compliment. ;-)

  4. Hi Carole, I love your blog! I need to let you know that...basically because you can't just imagine it. You can't, can you? :)

  5. I don't think anyone puts any stock in those awards. They're just kind of fun to pass around.

Believe me, after your first 17 memes, you won't feel left out. You'll be thinking of ways to avoid doing them!

Why not start your own meme? (Just don't tag me!)

  6. First off. Hello Carole!! Thank you for stopping by!!

I too have been looking at other's blogs to see how I can improve on mine. Me.. I don't care for all the awards & such either. I do have a couple on my other blog though.

Regarding the ppp. I don't do so hot with them making money, but maybe it's because I don't get enough people coming to my blog, but I never seem to get a chance to be able to write about anything. A place I do pretty good at is payu2blog.com. You don't get to pick & choose what you write about though.. they assign you the assignments, but they pay every 2 weeks and I don't think a payday has gone by yet (knock on wood) that I didn't get paid anything. Last payday I actually made $100!! What I try to do with my posts are to relate them to my every day life so it really doesn't sound like an ad. To me it reminds me of being back in high school, but I get paid! :) If you have any questions about them, just throw me an email! (kksmom92-momof2@yahoo.com)

  7. Haha, these ramblings have been funny :-) I was just dropping by and stopped reading your post.

I have signed up for PPP and did the first post around 1 month ago. I haven't found anything interesting in the opportunities to post about, so I don't do it. I also always ask myself how others can find so many opportunities...

About the blinky awards, well, I have got some and felt somehow obliged to put them on my blog. I am not too happy if the list will become longer as it clutters my sidebar.

Have a great day and Happy Dropping!

I read each and every comment, and though I don't always get a chance to respond, I enjoy reading (and pondering) what you have to say. Thanks for your 2 cents! :-)
