Am I the Only One Who Has a Laptop That Reaches the Temperature of the Sun?

I had to actually buy a pad to put underneath my laptop so that I can still use it on my lap. I am constantly running spyware removal programs to keep it "clean" and I of course have virus protection as well, but once that CPU starts a crankin' the temp skyrockets. I can't believe the fans in it haven't broken on me yet, they're in such heavy use. It's even turned off on me because the temperature got too high. (It's a Dell Inspiron 6000, by the way.) I'm kinda excpecting one of these days to have a fatal meltdown (the computer, not me, ha ha). This computer IS a few years old, so I've been poking around, just looking at what other laptops are out there. I'm kinda liking the Sony Vaio. I used to have a Compaq that I liked. DH has a Dell also, although his model doesn't seem prone to overheating at all. He used to have an IBM laptop, but if you're a regular reader of my blog you know that I'm certainly not going to give IBM any of my money. I don't know, I just need one that won't fry my thighs, do they sell that??

  1. I have a 5 year old Dell, with the Atari 2600 operating system.

Actually it works great, but I got the extra batteries; they barely work and make it weigh A TON! I have to weigh it but it must be like 50 pounds. Oof.

At $1500, I'm in no hurry to replace it.

Gonna trick it out by putting an STP sticker on it.

  2. I used to have an HP Pavilion laptop. Well, I still have it-- the kids use it for school. That thing would top 112F sometimes, yow!

I now have a Toshiba Satellite, which folks tell me runs lower. I think it does, but I haven't tested it.

I read each and every comment, and though I don't always get a chance to respond, I enjoy reading (and pondering) what you have to say. Thanks for your 2 cents! :-)
