When I was a kid I had a Raggedy Ann doll that I loved and slept with.
One night I barfed on her. :-(
My mom soaked her and tried to clean her, but let's say, she never smelled good after that. I can still remember looking at her in the bathroom sink, soaking in some kind of cleaner, hoping she was going to be ok...
Now I would've gladly put up with the less than stellar scent of my beloved Raggedy Ann doll, but mom wouldn't let me keep her, so we got rid of my Raggedy Ann.
My parents bought me a new one, but it wasn't the same, you know?
I told DD this story once. She could understand how sad I must have felt because she has a special lovey friend - it's none other than Moo Cow, the mascot of this very blog. I'm sure she imagined how she would feel if she had to give up Moo Cow forever.
Well a couple of years ago for Mother's Day or my birthday (I forget which) guess what I got from DD - a new Raggedy Ann doll!!!
And even though of course it couldn't really quite exactly replace my old doll, somehow this new doll seemed just right.
I'm laying up against her as I write this post in fact.
Did you know that if you look under Raggedy Ann's shirt she has a red heart on her chest that says "I Love You"?
I love you too my Raggedy Ann!
Anyone else out there, even though you're all growed up, willing to admit you have a favorite childhood "lovey"?
I must wish you congratulations to get Ann back after so long.
ReplyDeleteI think you should let your parents know about it too. I'm sure she will be happy too. If not, why she is trying to clean your old Ann twice for you.
At my house it was my sister and her Mrs. Beasley doll that were memorable. I was not much for dolls as a child (or as an adult for that matter), but she was really attached to that doll. I don't know what happened to it, but I think a replacement might make a good gift for her.
ReplyDeleteI had a Raggedy Ann and Andy and, as a matter of fact, my mom just gave them back to me a couple of weeks ago (she'd stored them up in her attic all these years, along with Holly Hobby and some of her crew).
ReplyDeleteI should take a picture of Ann & Andy because they are really are Raggedy now. I never loved Holly Hobby like I did Raggedy Ann. Maybe it was the heart that sealed the deal for me, too.
I still have my very old, worn, Teddy.
ReplyDeleteAwwww that's sweet, my fave childhood doll was my Holly hobby doll. I used to beat my sisters up for playing with her. I don't know what ever happened to her though. That was really sweet of your daughter to get you another though. And Moo Cow is just adorable period, he's what actually drew my interest to come read here.
ReplyDeleteRagedy Ann was my lovey I had her until I was 5 and all her yarn hair fell out. Your picture brought back a memory flash :-) Now I need to find another one I would love to give her to my daughters.
ReplyDeleteWhat a sweet story! I still have my lovey - a pink teddy bear named "Pinky". If I ever barfed on him I would be sad too
ReplyDeleteThat's so sweet. I'm very fond for Goofy, even though I am now entering my fourth decade of my existence...
ReplyDeleteI have a blogger friend whose has this great quote as a part of her signature: "People never grow up; they just learn how to act in public." Cute! lol!
I used to be called Raggedy Ann for my red hair. But I do recall having one also.
