Signature Items

As fairly long time geocachers, we've been searching for a good "sig item" - which would be some sort of trinket to leave behind in caches that would have our geocaching name on it. We've seen all sorts of items left ranging from carribeaners to wooden nickels to laminated business cards. And having sig items would be nice because then we wouldn't have to keep stopping at the dollar store to "replenish" our supply of trade items all the time. :-) So I was searching around and I found this marketing pens site that seems to have pens we could have imprinted for a really great price. That seems like a good solution - small and lightweight. Easy to fit in caches, except of course micros and nanos. Speaking of fitting items in caches, we were at a local event recently and along with the usual plethora of travel bugs for trade and discovery, there was a HUGE CONCRETE travel bug, probably 2 feet tall. Some of our "caching friends" took it and we were SURE we were going to find that on our front steps when we got home, but luckily it was not there. I don't know what cache you could leave that in or at, but I'm sure they'll find a way to keep it moving along!

  1. Geocaching sounds like SO MUCH fun!! How does one get started? Does it involve a lot of travel?

  2. I have dreamed of geocaching for many years. But alas, no GPS and I'm not sure about geocaching without one. I have friends who go and their whole family is hooked. They even took a trip to China and geocached there, too.

Do you use a GPS when you go?

Hey, I have a crafty idea for a sig item. What if you got several stones, like river stones, about the size of a York peppermint patty? (The smallish ones.) Then get a paint marker at a craft supply store and write your name or website or something on the stone.

    Paint dry = permanent.

You could finish it off with a little acrylic sealer spray or shellac spray to seal and shine the stone.

    Just a thought.

I read each and every comment, and though I don't always get a chance to respond, I enjoy reading (and pondering) what you have to say. Thanks for your 2 cents! :-)
