Yes I'm One of Those Stupid People...

...that goes to McDonalds and orders a Big Mac Meal with...A DIET COKE.

But I have a somewhat reasonable explanation for this. It's not that I'm trying to save calories by getting the diet Coke, which would be totally silly after eating a 5 million calorie Big Mac and fries. The thing is, when I was pregnant I had gestational diabetes, so for the duration of my pregnancy I had to be very careful of my sugar intake, and thus I couldn't drink regular soda, so I switched to diet. Well I got so used to the taste of diet that by the time DD was born and I went to go back to regular soda it just tasted waaaaaaaaaaay too sweet and I didn't like it at all anymore. So now I always drink diet just because I like it.

I know, who the heck drinks diet because they LIKE it?

(Btw, If you're a diet soda drinker have you tried Coke Zero? That is THE BEST diet soda out there. And yes, I know, Diet Dr. Pepper is really quite good too.)

(And yes, I know, there's terrible chemicals and additives in diet soda that are going to kill me. Don't worry, I only have a diet soda occasionally. I'm probably not in TOO much danger. You'll be relieved to know good ol' water is my drink of choice.)

The End

  2. diet coke is still not as sweet tasting as regular coke. That's why I order it. I don't add sugar to my coffee either.

  3. I do the same thing. I have always preferred the taste of diet soda to regular. Even as a teen. I think it is because I don't like sweet things much and diet is less sweet tasting.

  6. Yuck, Coke Zero is vile. I used to drink Diet Coke but lately have gone back to the real thing and cant' stand Diet Coke any more. I sort of figure if I'm going to drink crap it might as well be the nicest crap.

By the way, do you supersize the Big Mac meal with that diet coke? Now that is truly pointless!!!

  7. I'm diabetic and I always do this. I don't need the corn syrup from regular soda. For old time sake I drank a Tab the other day. Just one calorie! Did you know that?

  8. Coke Zero is the best! I had it in England when I was there. I was very glad when they finally introduced it over here in The Netherlands!

  11. I used to be a heavy diet soda drinker but I stopped in August last year. I've had the occasional soda though when there's no other drink available. When I do, I prefer Coke Light or Coke Zero.

  12. Ditto!! Pepsi is WAY to sweet for me - will definitely have to try out Coke Zero.

  13. I have diabetes which means I can generally have a Big Mac & fries but a sweetened soda is a big No-No for me...so I dod the same thing.

But now, I haven't tried Coke Zero...now I'm gonna have to get some. I normally drink Diet Mt. Dew (and always HATED regular Mt. Dew, go figure. LOL)

  14. Haha! This is actually a bit funny and remind me of something..

Some years ago I worked part time at McDonald's (Damn, I'm glad that I don't work there anymore! :p) and there was this lady who was way overweighted and she ordered:
    - a Large Big Tasty menu with fries,
    - three mayonnaise
    - 9 piece of chicken nuggets
    - a regular hamburger
    - And for drinks? She wanted to have diet coke! :p

And the reason why I have remembered this is that she said the following AFTER she ordered all of those above and her diet coke: "Yeah, I'm on a diet, so I have to watch what I'm going to eat!"

When I heard that I really didn't knew what to say.. I was really amazed!

Anyway, I don't like diet coke. Give me just regular coke and I'm happy! :p

By the way: I heard that someone tested Coca Cola Light VS Coca Cola Zero and both contained the same amount of sugar etc. Explanation: Coca Cola Light should be for woman and Coca Cola Zero should be for men.. If it's true? I don't know! :p

  15. I am a BIG fan of Coke. I think for those who are on diet and don't want to give up the great taste of Coke, then Coke Zero is what they need. I think it has the exact same taste as the regular, which is not the case with the diet Coke.
I switched to Coke Zero, because it provides the real taste of Coke and makes my wife think that I'm finally trying to go into diet. Suddenly, life is musch easier.

  16. Here, here! I love Diet too because I've grown to hate the sweet taste of Regular Soda. But I'm a Pepsi girl. I find it less sweet than Coke. :)

  17. I'm a diet drinker too. I've got type one diabetes--and I always feel dumb when I order a bunch of greasy, high-calorie food and then add a diet soda.

But I've learned to just not care what people think of me when I do this.

    Great blog...I'll continue to read.

I read each and every comment, and though I don't always get a chance to respond, I enjoy reading (and pondering) what you have to say. Thanks for your 2 cents! :-)
