Speaking of Iron On Labels...

In my post yesterday I mentioned that you can get special labels you can print on and then iron on to your clothing. Well, a funny story about that...

When DH's grandfather went into a nursing home, MIL went and bought him all new underwear and socks because DH's Scottish grandfather was very thrifty - his most famous quote was, "Ye nay be needin' that!" - and lets just say his underwear and socks that he had were not in the best condition. The nursing home labeled all his clothes including underwear and socks with his name so that of course, when they did the laundry, they would know that the clothes belonged to him.

Well DH's grandfather passed away not long after entering the nursing home and after going through and cleaning out all his belongings, my MIL had saved the socks - some were still brand new and she hated to throw them out, so she asked my DH if he wanted them. My DH, being of the same blood as his grandfather and just about as thrifty, not wanting to waste perfectly good socks took them. I mean, who cares if the socks have his grandfather's name on them, right?

Well leave it to me to think to myself, one of these days DH is going to be in an accident, or fall off a cliff while geocaching or something, and someone's going to find him and they're going to see that he's got his name on his socks and they're going to be calling around looking for his dead grandfather's next of kin instead of me! Because who on earth would wear socks with someone else's name on them?

My bottlecap savin', thrify "ye nay be needin' that" husband, that's who!

The end.

  1. Socks as ID. Now that's a new thought!

  2. Actually I think this is a great idea - even ID on socks!

  3. Hah (: Funny!! Sounds like my hubby, he still wears shirts from highschool! I've tried to chuck them out, but he finds them and continues to wear them. At least his lack of shopping leaves me more money to do my shopping!

  4. yea my hubby's got stuff from high school, mostly holey t-shirts, that he's not parted with yet... making progress slowly... I'm totally laughing about having the wrong identity situation, teehee!

  5. My husband wears MY t-shirts from high school that don't fit me anymore. :( Just can't part with those concert tees.
I have labels that Carole mentioned for my son. I got labels that you can put through the dishwasher, and they won't wash away or wear off, labels you can iron on clothes, and even keychains you can put onto bookbags for ID. I started using them when my son was in daycare, and now I use them to label his things for school. Some of the labels on his bottles have lasted three years without wearing off. :) Here's a link to the webpage: http://www.babylabels.com/

  6. I remember my mum got some labels made up with my and my brothers' names to go on our school uniforms. I actually only got rid of the leftovers last year during a clean up.
I think it's a guy thing hanging on to clothes like that. My dad had a jumper that was 10 to 15 years old that he used to wear all the time. And even though he had other, nicer, newer jumpers, he always pulled out that one. My mum finally threw it out a couple of months ago.

I read each and every comment, and though I don't always get a chance to respond, I enjoy reading (and pondering) what you have to say. Thanks for your 2 cents! :-)
