This is Julie. Does She Look Stuck Up to You?

This is American Girl Doll Julie. Of all our dolls, this is the one DH likes the best.
Julie is probably the doll I like the least.
DH likes her long, straight blonde hair and brown eyes.
I think she looks stuck up (a snob).
She's from their "historical line" of dolls. Let me repeat - "Historical".
You know what year/era she's from? 1974.
Criminy, *I* was a kid in 1974!

Maybe I don't like Julie because she makes me feel old. Or maybe because I wasn't cute like her - instead I had a Dorothy Hamill hair cut and plaid pants.

That could be it.

Anyway, I forgot to post this back when we first did this scene back at the beginning of summer, so before we change it to fall, I wanted to put this up.

Here's our American Girl summer scene:

Here's a close up of Mei Li (she's an American Girl Just Like You Doll) and Kit Kittredge (a historical - the one they just made a movie about):

Here's Lexi (another Just Like You Doll) and Julie:

If you're an American Girl Doll lover like we are, be warned I hear a bunch of new items will be on the American Girl website today, and rumor is there are going to be some new Just Like You Dolls, and new outfits for Mia, the Just Like You dolls, and some eagerly awaited new outfits for some of the historicals too (crossing my fingers for some new Kirsten stuff...).

Frugal Mom Alert: If the prices for American Girl stuff puts you off, I also discovered a website for doll clothing, furniture and accessories that fit 18" American Girl dolls, it's called Emily Rose. I've not ever bought anything myself from them - yet, but they look like they have some nice items at good prices and very reasonable shipping - worth checking out!

Gotta start thinking about a Fall Scene....! :-)

Edited to add: Just heard some news about the new items and YES, there are a few new things for Kirsten, woo hoo! Also, check this out - this sounds kinda cool:

Doll Ear Piercing

Starting today, we are offering doll ear piercing at the New York store. This is our newest experience at American Girl Place. Like our Hair Salon this is destined to be very popular. Piercing is $14, this includes the first set of earrings (the ones that go in her ears) and a set of six additional earrings. Only 18” dolls can get their ears pierced. No Bitty Babies or Bitty Twins. If your doll already has earrings that are removable, the new earrings will fit.

  1. I didn't have dolls as a girl, not until I was 13 and I got my first female neighbor who was nuts about Barbies. Before then, I had 4 brothers and only male neighbors. We played a lot of cowboys & indians, matchbox cars (still love em!), and watched Bruce Lee and Chuck Norris movies. We also built the coolest forts!!!

Yeah, Julie looks stuck up. Your husband likes her best? :-O

    Got any Chuck Norris dolls?

  3. I'm not sure I would call Julie "stuck up" but her coloring seems a tad "off." *lol*

My daughter has an AG doll ... one of the "Looks Like You" but we couldn't get it to look quite enough like her. She's bi-racial and I couldn't get the African hair in any color other than black. So we opted for the straight hair version (which is what my daughter wishes she looked like anyway!).

Now the daughter is going on 14 and the doll has disappeared somewhere in the mess that is her domain. I should have her dig it up!

  4. Thanks the link Carole.

I love the Summer scene - they look laid back and relaxed.

  5. Yeah, we have Julie, too, and I don't like her either. Since I was 6 in 1974 and looked nothing like that, I find her off-putting. She's too perfect.
Love how you do the scenes!

  6. I honestly think she just looks like she needs some dental work, and her eyes are a little too far apart...you do have her in a somewhat stuck up pose, however... I was three in 1974, and just beautiful. :)
I'm so used to boys, that I'm going to have a lot of getting used to girl things when I have my daughter in October! So far, it's been real easy getting used to all the pink, flowery, lacy, bow-decorated stuff I've gotten so far... :)

  7. I love Julie! :) You need a Disney Princess Scene now...and I just happen to know someone who sells American Girl size doll clothes! ;)

I have a blond doll I use for photos - I think she's adorable. Someday I hope to give her to a granddaughter. :)

    Nice scenes!

  8. When you're not looking, Julie's singing "I'm too cool, too cool, I'm too cool to know you..." find her mic and take it away.

  9. Rebecca: No, we don't have any Chuck Norris dolls, but one time my nephew left his GI "action figure" here and we were gonna get all DD's Polly Pockets and make GI Joe to to their dollhouse, and make him go to their spa, and ride in their pink car....

Claire: Thanks again a bunch for the award! XOXO

Designing Hilary: Yeah, if your DD doesn't want her doll anymore, they go for close to retail price on eBay if you want to recoup your money!

Christy: Yeah, maybe that's it...she looks too perfect. Thanks for the compliments on the scenes, they're so much fun to do.

Krissy: Don't worry, you won't have any trouble getting back into "girl stuff" - it's like riding a bike, you never forget - it'll all come right back to you and you can relieve your childhood all over again!

Princess Time Toys: Cool! I will definitely check out your site!

Tom / aka Dad: You win the award for best comment - LOL!!!! (For those who don't know, those are lyrics from a Camp Rock song - a popular tween movie. How cool of a Grandpa is he that he knows the words to one of DD's favorite songs??) I'm going to go look for that mic right now!!! :-D

  10. You're a snob! Not Julie. Just because you were an ugly child doesn't make her a snob. I'm not trying to be rude, but you are severely rude.

  11. And you know what's sad? I'm still ugly. Yes, that's why I'm so rude and mean to a dolly. You've got me pegged. I'm so embarrassed.

  12. The other anonymous comment: Seriously? Is Carole severely rude for thinking Julie is too perfect?

I read each and every comment, and though I don't always get a chance to respond, I enjoy reading (and pondering) what you have to say. Thanks for your 2 cents! :-)
