This Picture is for You Krissy, and, Thank God I'm a County Girl

Krissy commented on my post (here) where I was gleefully savoring some of my county fair swag - which included a free Toyota hat. She astutely noted that I could "mow the lawn in high style", so this pic is for you Krissy - you were right - am I stylin' or what? :-) (And btw, men's white v-neck undershirts are what all the stylish lawn care professionals are wearing this year you know.)

Thought I'd also share with you my lawn mowing accessories.

Yup. A stick (not just any stick mind you! You can read about this important stick story here: Part 1, Part 2, Part 3), hearing protection and my iPod. You know I usually listen to podcasts on my iPod (although once I posted about vacumming to Boy Band Christmas Music in July) but today for the push mowing portion of the day, I listened to one song over and over. It was just such a good song and it just got my feet moving.

I'm kinda embarrassed to tell you what it was though.

Oh, all right.

John Denver's "Thank God I'm a Country Boy".

The live version.

You know what, I'm sorry, that is a really good song. When was the last time YOU heard it? (Probably back in the 70s when it was popular?) If you like a good country fiddle song, or you're a country boy or girl (or a country boy or girl at heart), how can you deny this is a great song?

They have it at iTunes if you want it too, it's the best 99 cents I've spent in a long time!
If you get it, get the live version, it's the best - from the album, "An Evening with John Denver".

(For the riding mowing portion of the lawnmowing I listened to Rush talk about McCain's pick of Sarah Palin. I'll share my thoughts about THAT in another post.)

  1. Awesome song! We have lots of country girls here. My 5 year old just started her own Country Girl blog http://littlecountryprincess.com :).

  2. Cute!!! I love John Denver:).

I really enjoyed the Cat Who series. I did end up 'quitting' them a few years ago, but I read most of them. Now I want to live in an apple orchard with Siamese...

  3. Well I am so flattered! And you certainly are dressed for the runway! As you well know, I love John Denver, my wedding song is by John Denver (For You), and my Mom, sister, and I went to see him in concert shortly before he passed away. Although I grew up in the city, and even though I do prefer heavy metal music, I am a country girl at heart...and from my experiences in Iowa, I learned first hand that they listen to that heavy metal stuff out in the corn fields too! :) However, there's no better way to listen to country music than in a pickup truck with a bass booster while cruising through the corn and soybean fields.
By the way, I think you could become a millionaire marketing your stick idea...you can't be the only one with that problem! You could have ones with flowers, smiley faces, tractors, polished chrome, broken robots...;)
Well, I'm off to spend my very last day at home with my three year old son before I send him off to school on the bus tomorrow morning...not looking forward to that! Going to visit some farms and gardens...should be lots of fun!

  4. Oh yeah. You look like a real Upstate NY Redneck! Woooo! And "Country Boy," no less! I love that song. My favorite is "Take Me Home Country Roads." I grew up listening to folk music (grew up in Elizabeth Cotten land, lol).

Have you ever heard of Mark O'Connor? If you like the fiddle, you'll love him! He's not twangy, but he's brilliant with the violin. :)

    Have fun!

  7. "thank god i'm a country boy" is also a great song to blast over a very expensive car stereo to get some funny looks from people. :D

  9. I am not so sure about John Denver but I love your hearing protection. I got to get myself some of them as well. They'd be handy when I am slashing our acreage with the tractor.

  10. Jennifer: I'm so glad there are others who think that song is awesome too! :-)

Empty Envelope: I've only read two of the "Cat Who..." series so far, but I am in LOVE with that Siamese cat. :-) Did you quit because the books weren't as good later in the series?

Krissy: I LOVE your "million dollar idea" with the sticks. I'll give you a percentage, ok? :-)

Rebecca: Yeah, Take Me Home Country Roads is my next favorite John Denver song. No, I never heard of Mark O'Connor - I googled him though and I'm going to check him out further...

Doll Clothes Gal: Thanks for lovin' that song too...and here I was worried I was going to get all these people telling me I am a dork for listening to that! You people ROCK! :-)

Miss French Jessica: I LOVE THAT - "You rock the hat". I gotta remember to tell DH that next time he rolls his eyes... :-P

Fwaggle: I really did LOL at your comment!! That's GREAT!!!

On Angel Wings: Yeah, I got DD to take the shot of me. She's a good little helper. I just tell her and DH, "It's for my blog" and they hardly even question me anymore. :-D

Mark: If you like to listen to music while you use the tractor make sure to get the hearing protection with the jack for your ipod or cd player or whatever. The hearing protection pictured that I have has a built in FM radio as well, if you're happy with just that. But listening to podcasts or music really makes the work go by quick.

I read each and every comment, and though I don't always get a chance to respond, I enjoy reading (and pondering) what you have to say. Thanks for your 2 cents! :-)
