This N That and A Question

Just a bunch of miscellany today...

I really enjoyed the comments left on my post about What Two Things Won't YOU Eat - I got a kick out of everyone's answers.  This wasn't meant to be a contest or anything, but I have to give kudos to Thru My Eyes for the item that really made me go "EWWWWWWWWW!" when I read it - one of the foods she won't eat is meat fat.  I just happened to make a corned beef today and, whew, when it was done and I sliced off that big slimey layer of gelatinous fat - whew - that is GROSS!

Our knives have Paul Revere's signature on them.  That seems really silly.

I added the new Blogspot feature of "followers" there in the right sidebar - follow me if you want!  You get the bonus of having your profile pic in microscopic size appear on my page like a mini celebrity!

I like the sound it makes when in Windows you click on "Empty the Recycle Bin".

My latest song that is great to vacuum to is "Burnin' Up" by the Jonas Brothers.  I'm thinking I should make a compilation CD of good tunes to vacuum and mow the lawn to.  So far I have Burnin' Up, Thank God I'm a Country Boy by John Denver, and Merry Christmas by NSYNC.

I scored a free (old) color tv on Freecycle today for DD, woot woot!  DH and I are good "scaffers" - we've been known to stop on the side of the road and pick up stuff with a "free" sign on it.  In fact, we have a big set of low metal shelves we scaffed off the sidewalk in Binghamton, NY when we were first married almost 15 years ago that we STILL have.  It holds all our games in the basement.

What's the best thing you ever "scaffed"/got for free?

The end, but not really because I want to hear what you have to say! :-)

  1. I also love the sound it makes when you empty the recycle bin!!

I'm good at getting things for free too-from Freecycle I got a really nice platform bed, but it didn't fit in my room! So the very same day I put it on Craigslist for $25 (because I had to rent a truck for that much) and sold it in an hour. It was REALLY nice.

Right now my coffee table is from Craigslist and it was free. It's really nice too. I'm lucky to live in a college city so when grad students are leaving the country to go back home after graduation, they just give things away because they have nowhere to put it!

  2. Oh i lovvvvvvvvvvvvve me some Freecycle. The best thing i've gotten from it is a desk, but i give a ton of things away on it. Sooooo Much easier than saving things or a garage sale i'll eventually have lol.

And i agree with the meat fat thing, a piece of fat in the chicken n dumplins will see me not eating another bite. Nassssssssssssty.

  3. Scaffing? Is that what they call it?

I scaffed a wicker chair once. Cleaned it up, painted it white, sewed a cushion for it...it's in dd's room.

See, I thought it was called trash picking. LOL!

  4. LOL

    Cute selection Carole….

I have my “Empty the Recycling Bin” set up to an audio clip of the Star Trek the Next Generation auto destruct sequence…I am not sure which Windows feature would go with a Vulcan mind meld…

  5. There's a free fruit/veggie stand with organic produce that I scaff from all the time...the stuff is yummy, especially the tomatoes. Good to be back by the way. :)

  6. haven't been able to scaff anything significant, because over here where i live, if you leave something usable out, there'll be someone who'll pick it up rather quickly. lot of skilled recyclers here.

  7. Dh got a lawn mower once at the dump, and we used it for five more years. Then he flew it out to our cabin, and still uses it there.
    I love freecycle!

  8. The one and only time I stopped and picked up free stuff was for a plastic study/art desk and chair. It had a built in lamp and tracer. I just cannot resist. Good thing I had my dad with me, it was heavy.

  9. I just joined freecycle. Haven't found what I'm looking for yet though. The best thing I ever got for free was a Starbucks travel mug. The clerk couldn't find the tag and the line was out the door so he handed it to me and said, "Merry Christmas." (This was before all the "happy holidays" ridiculousness.)

I read each and every comment, and though I don't always get a chance to respond, I enjoy reading (and pondering) what you have to say. Thanks for your 2 cents! :-)
