I'm Going to Try Twitter
(I can't imagine I'm going to have time to keep up with yet another thing, but I thought I'd give it a shot anyway.)
In case you're unfamiliar with Twitter, from Wikipedia:
"Twitter is a free social networking and micro-blogging service, that allows its users to send and read other users' updates (otherwise known as tweets), which are text-based posts of up to 140 characters in length. Updates are displayed on the user's profile page and delivered to other users who have signed up to receive them. The sender can restrict delivery to those in his or her circle of friends (delivery to everyone being the default). Users can receive updates via the Twitter website, SMS, RSS, email or through an application such as TwitterFon, Twitterrific, Feedalizr or Facebook."
As you can imagine my "following" and "followers" list is very small right now - I need more people to follow to get a better idea of what Twitter is all about. If you use Twitter and want to follow me, I'll follow you... You can click the link above, or I put one in my sidebar. Or if you don't use Twitter, go sign up and try it out like me! We can figure it out together... :-)
I don't know if this is going to be better than sliced bread, or the best diet pill, or what, but it seems like fun, huh?
I'm hoping it'll be "Twitterlicious"! :-)
The end.

I have just added you to follow.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy!
I've been thinking about doing this for a while so I just signed up after reading your post. I'm off to add you to follow.
ReplyDeleteGood luck. I'm avoiding Twitter for now.
ReplyDeleteThere's just something too cutesy about it...
Oh no, Carole! You've been sucked in! First it's Twitter, then it's Kool-Aid! nooooo! LOL!
ReplyDeleteSeriously, I've avoided Twitter like I've avoided a lot of the other microscopial bloggerish chattery stuff out there.... I'm still waiting to see if it's a good thing. From some of the twitters I've seen from others, weeeellll: I'd really rather not know about every little thought that passes through your mind, thank you very much!
But with YOU on Twitter, maybe I'll look at it again. Because I think you always have interesting things to say, and I trust your opinion. So would you be willing to gives updates from time to time on Twitter's usefulness, etc (assuming it has some)? From what I have seen so far, I haven't seen any reason to join. It also has seemed very 1984-ish, the entire idea of getting accustomed to publicizing one's thoughts, actions, etc.
So I'm still waiting in the sidelines. And I'm looking forward to seeing what you think of it and do with it. :D
Been avoiding this for the same reasons. Good luck and maybe one day I'll take the plunge too.
ReplyDeleteCarole,
ReplyDeleteOnce you sign on to Twitter - take a look at Twitterfeed - your posts on your blog can feed over to your twitter account! I love mine!
Good luck. I joined what seems like ages ago (I think it is really more like around 4 months ago) anyway, I have still not got the hang of it...
ReplyDeleteI have it, but don't use it as i should. Someday maybe i'll have time lol. Maybe.......
ReplyDeleteI just joined recently my self.
ReplyDeleteI thought Twitter was mainly for people who want to read blogs and network with cell phones. That's mainly why I never joined. But, I don't know what I'd do with another social network now either.
ReplyDeletehave fun! i think it sounds like fun, so let me know what you think. keep us posted?
ReplyDeleteHey everybody, thanks for your replies. You know, I was really dubious about joining too, but so far it's not like what I expected at all - it's much better. I have it set up as a gadget on the sidebar of my computer and throughout the day now and then a new little message silently appears from whoever decided to "tweet". I don't have to click on it to read the whole thing if I don't want to, it's quite unobtrusive. And if I find anyone who is annoying or "tweets" too much I simply stop following them and they disappear. You only follow who you choose. I've already found out about a couple of sales from some of my coupon-hound friends, was encouraged to check out a very cool forum by an Entrecarder (there's quite a few Entrecarders on it), and got breaking news from CNN on it. But it really barely takes up any of my time, which surprised me. It's fun to see what people are doing. My fave person that I'm following so far is MountainWoman 'cause I get to read her "tweet" about stuff like going to her barn, her dogs laying by the fire, and her Mountain Man making her dinner. It's fun! But I will definitely do a follow up post in a few weeks when I've had more time to use it. But so far, it's fun, not annoying, and doesn't suck my time away. So far.
ReplyDeleteOk, I'm trying it! Please follow me so I have at least one person. LOL.
