Excitement Today, Suspense for Tomorrow

So my excitement for today was, I sat in front of the tv all day today!  I don't think I've ever sat and watched an inauguration all day before.  It was exciting and historic and totally fascinating to me.

I found a couple of interesting things online I thought I'd share.  First of all, did you know not only the menu but the recipes for the inauguration luncheon are online?  Very interesting!  You can check that out *here* if you're interested.  The Seafood Stew sounds SO good!  (It calls for SIX lobsters!)

I also watched two slideshows.  One was a slideshow of the faces of all our presidents in order.  I found it very interesting to sit and look at all the faces of our presidents.  Something I noticed was most of the early ones had quite the facial hair.  I forget which one, but one of them had some crazy eyebrows.  I also noticed that only a few smiled.  Jimmy Carter had a downright grin.  It doesn't take that long to watch, if you're interested, you can find that slideshow at www.whitehouse.gov/slideshows/presidents.

The other slideshow was a slideshow of some of the president's pets - so cute!  My faves were George Bush Sr.'s dog Millie with her pupplies, and the photo of the Clinton's cat "Socks".  This one is even shorter than the other and it's fun - you can check it out at www.whitehouse.gov/slideshows/presidentialpets/.

And now about the suspense....

Well, unfortunately I can't imagine I'm going to have a loss at my weigh-in tomorrow.  It's not that I fell off the wagon or anything like that, but in the past week I had my father's birthday party (yummy dinner and cake and ice cream), had friends over (wine, cheese and snacks), had a huge annual family party with all the trimmings (appetizers, huge meal, dessert - the works!), AND I visited a friend who had baked a banana bread - what was I going to do - not have a piece?

So although I could have skimped and strictly stayed to my weight watcher points, as I said previously, my big goal THIS time on Weight Watchers is to try to eat as normally and realistically as possible, so that MAYBE this time I won't gain it all back.  I'm NOT going to starve myself, exercise like a fiend, take diet pills or eat weird things like "soy protien" (I don't know what that is, but I've eaten it) - because I KNOW I won't be doing any of those things in "real life" once I'm done with the Weight Watchers program.

So at all these parties, I felt it would have been unrealistic for me to hardly eat anything.  So what I did is I tried to really pay attention to what food was there, and really think about what I REALLY wanted to eat.

I did *not* just throw stuff down my pie hole mindlessly.  (Which is what I usually do.)

I chose what I really wanted, I ate small portions, and savored what I had.  So although I may not lose any weight this week (or God help me if I gained!), I didn't overeat at any of these occasions, I enjoyed myself, and I hope that if I can get into the habit of being more thoughtful about what I eat, I'll have more success in the long term.

I'm meeting some friends tomorrow morning, so I may not be able to post about my weigh in until late tomorrow, but I promise I'll check in whether it's good news or bad.

*crossing fingers*

The end.

  1. Oh,... drats, I got on scale this a.m. and had gained two pounds. And I thought I'd been so careful. OK,... back to writing down calories again. It's the only thing that works for me. Good luck with your weigh in,... I'm sure you will do better than me!

  3. Sounds like it's the week for it, Cedar and Carole. I had to go to a birthday thing last night, and beforehand, I forgot I was going, and I ate a big dinner. Needless to say, I didn't lose the last few days. I gained two!! Lemmee tell you, I ran extra today!

  4. I think that early on - presidents didn't smile because it took so long to take a picture. It was hard for someone to hold a smile for so long without moving.

That picture of Lincoln - wow - he looks downright creepy in that picture.

  5. Good luck! I'm starting from the opposite direction. I'm working my way into becoming a regular at the gym again. With hubby out of work at the moment, he's home to do morning school duties so I can head out the door before the crack of dawn. Two days this week!

  6. We had a lot of parties this week too. My friend's grandson turned 1:). There was cake. I haven't had cake in quite awhile. And I *enjoyed* it.

I am trying to savor what I eat and slow down.

  8. I was pretty much the opposite about the inauguration. I'm burned out on politics and I think his politics are so fundamentally flawed that failure is inevitable.

Good luck with your weigh in. I am on the same page you are as far as making small, liveable choices.

Did you know that 70% of people who lose a significant amount of weight (50 lbs or more) do it with the help of a program like Nutrisytem, Jenny etc. HOWEVER, 70% of those who KEEP the weight off did it on their own by figuring out what works for their bodies and not relying on outside 'help'. Not sure where WW fits into that but it is interesting to consider.

  9. Well, I have to inform you that you had soy protein on Sunday if you ate any of the baked ziti. Since my sister's son is allergic to cheese, there couldn't be any cheese in the ziti, and she used soy protein, tofu, instead. :)
    It was yummy!

I read each and every comment, and though I don't always get a chance to respond, I enjoy reading (and pondering) what you have to say. Thanks for your 2 cents! :-)
