What I've Been Reading

I truly love to read, but I end up doing a lot of reading on the computer, however, these are some "real life books" I've read lately....

I don't usually even buy many books - I get them from the library OR I get them from the used bookstore, BUT I saw these when I was shopping at BJs Wholesale Club and I had already been hearing about these books on the news.  They are really quite good, and very visual and easy to read.  I consider myself to be fairly savvy as far as knowing what are good nutritional choices and what are not, but I was in for a few surprises in these books.  The books claim that by making the switches they suggest, you could lose a bunch of weight without even dieting.  It's probably true.  Worth the purchase.

No surprise here for my regular readers.  In case you don't know, we're in the planning stages of building a "cabin" on a small piece of property that we bought in the Adirondacks.  Not a log cabin, but something that will hopefully look "Adirondack-y".  (We don't have like, millions to spend on this - won't be sleeping on Sferra sheets or eating off of Wedgewood!  More like whatever Walmart has. On clearance. Heh.)  It gets confusing after awhile, the plans all start to become one big blur, but I think I've at least narrowed it down to wanting two bedrooms down and one up (rather than two upstairs and one downstairs), AND I think I'd like at least a small loft.  If you have a cabin, don't you kinda HAVE to have a loft?  Well, we'll see what DH thinks.

Speaking of the Adirondacks, Santa brought DD some of these books for Christmas - The Adirondack Kids by Justin and Gary VanRiper, and after DD read them, I wanted to read them.  They are so good!!  I highly recommend them especially if you have kids that like the Adirondacks or the outdoors.  I love to read some of DD's chapter books, I'm sorry but some of them are really quite good!  I've read all the American Girl books we have also, and I really enjoyed them.  Last time I was at the used bookstore I picked up some books by Marguerite Henry (at the excellent suggestion of one of my readers Glitzen, of Saddlepotatoes - link in right sidebar), one of which is "Misty of Chincoteague", and Chincoteague, VA is where we're going for vacation this summer.  I haven't read that book since I was a kid, and I don't think I ever read any of the other "Misty" books, so I'm looking forward to reading those too.

DD is also very into "weather" - tornados especially and she has some cool weather and tornado books that I liked reading too.  :-P  If I ever decide to homeschool the good thing is I'm sure I'd read every book right along with DD!

The end.

  1. I was going to publish a diet book very similar to 'Eat This, Not That', but the 'Eat This' page was just going to be a 1/2 portion of what was shown on the 'Not That' page.

  2. I'm into James Patterson books lately. I read whatever I can find in library or in paperback. It's like a mania :o)

  3. I love those kinds of books that surprise you with new info-trouble is, I never seem to ever use the info because after the book is read, it's put away and I don't remember most of it.

Right now I'm reading a Neil Gaiman book-American Gods. It's pretty good-but I can put it down, which isn't the kind of book I like.

  4. I just saw the "Eat This, Not That" author interviewed on our local TV station (the book publisher is in a nearby town). The thing I remembered most was that frozen veggies are just as good, if not better than fresh. They're flash frozen with all the nutrients preserved and you get to enjoy them by the time it hits your table. Fresh? You don't know how long it took to get to the store or how long it's been sitting out. Thought it was interesting. And, yeah, now I'm buying more frozen! And it's way cheaper, too.

  7. I haven't looked at those books yet, but they look really interesting. I'm still reading Cold Plague by I don't remember who. It's a decent book...I just have no time to read, and when I do, I'm constantly interrupted so I read the same page over and over! LOL
10 pounds in five weeks isn't very slow...I think you're doing wonderfully well. And the more slowly you take it off, the more likely you are to make your healthy choices healthy habits. :D

  8. Our cabin is super rustic, but yes..we have a loft! Your cabin plans sound great!

Oh goodie..you are going to read Misty! Then you will have to get the adorable figurines made by Breyer..so cute! I was such a Misty and Stormy NUT when I was a little girl. I still have the original book set I got when I was eight.....

  11. Cabin planning, how fun! Those Adirondack kids books look darling. I'm reading Mrs Piggle Wiggle to the kids right now, just finished a Laura Childs tea mystery and started on Sinclair Lewis' 'Main Street'.

I've flipped through 'Eat This, Not That'. I think it has a lot of good info, albeit a tad depressing, lol!

I read each and every comment, and though I don't always get a chance to respond, I enjoy reading (and pondering) what you have to say. Thanks for your 2 cents! :-)
