Are You As Confused As I Am By Facebook?!?

I consider myself to be pretty computer savvy, but I'll tell ya, if I don't watch what I'm doing, before I know it I've sent a "plant for your little green patch" to like, everyone in my Yahoo address book, then suddenly I'm signing up something that I have to pay for, which is what prompts me to notice I'm not even on the Facebook site anymore...

Yikes.  I must admit, I do enjoy the chance to catch up with old friends, I love being able to get a glimpse into the life of my teenage nephew, and I totally enjoy viewing pics of my cousin's family that I would not normally have the opportunity to see (to name a few good things about Facebook), but sometimes I feel like I end up in a maze of "clicks".

If you're unsure as to whether to even sign up, or are already on Facebook and could use some help, a podcaster that I have been listening to for a looooooong time, Cliff Ravenscraft from GSPN.tv, has put up some video tutorials to Facebook and they are wonderful!  Not only does he explain everything, but he shows you on HIS computer screen exactly what he's clicking on and where, it's GREAT!  You can either download these videos to your portable media player or you can watch them right online from your computer - you just click - nothing complicated at all.  He has put out three episodes so far.  Check them out here: Facebook 101.  (Be sure to check out the other many wonderful podcasts while you're there!)

If you're already a Facebook user, you will totally be able to relate to this HILARIOUS video - 25 Things I Hate About Facebook:

And this one - "Enough Facebook!"

If you're still unsure about whether to join the Facebook revolution, here's what you're missing out on - if you were on Facebook, you could be "friends" with The Hamburger Bed!

The end.

  1. Hi there and thanks! I'll have a look. :-)
I get so confused that I end up bored with Facebook and leave it after only a few minutes.
I find most of the stuff there pretty silly too.

    Thanks! :-)

  2. The intentionally run ads in places where they look like they are part of the application you are using. I think it's pretty stupid of them cause people will just get fed up. There are a ton of social networks out there. Facebook is making themselves into a pest with junk ads and trying to claim any content you put on the site as their own. I like the games but, in reality, they are just time wasters. I've been getting more into Twitter to catch up with people online.

  4. Yes! I love Facebook but I ignore ALL requests, even relatives. I just cannot handle it, and I want to waste my time my own way! LOL.
I want to be your FB friend! Look for me to show up on your requests, k?
I can't wait to watch the vids and check out Facebook 101. What a great idea. Thanks for sharing it.

  6. There is so much drama attached. For instance, why won't someone accept my request when we were good friends for a long time? Why are they requesting me when they have 500+ and wouldn't give me the time of day in real life? Am I annoying people? Etc. So many questions.

  7. The hamburger bed is quite silly.

Not on facebook and have no plans to join. I especially don't want them to own EVERYTHING, much less ANYTHING I put on there.

  8. I'm on FB and it gets quite crazy some times. But I accept and reply to only what I want or feel like :o)
BTW: that burger bed is awesome!

  9. Oh, I'm a closet Facebook addict. I had to stop doing all the Green Patches and stuff cause it took up too much time but I have found friends from years ago and I keep up with them through their updates and I've also made some new friends. Yes, there sure is a bunch of silly stuff that wastes time over there too.
I'm off to find the hamburger bed :)

  11. I loved your video. I still haven't figured out a lot of facebook, and I don't spend much time on it, but I have discovered some friends from many years ago and that's been fun. What amuses me are what my husband calls the "friend collectors" - those people who have like 600 friends. I recently went through my friends and cut the list down to people I know. I had been letting acquaintances in and put an end to that.

  12. Facebook sometimes makes me nuts, trying to figure out everything and what to do. I tried a couple games but found it was a big waste of my time so don't bother with them anymore. Same with the "gifts." I like it to get updated on the people I know. That's all I really use it for. I've bookmarked your post--will definitely watch the FB 101 videos later.

I read each and every comment, and though I don't always get a chance to respond, I enjoy reading (and pondering) what you have to say. Thanks for your 2 cents! :-)
