Our Afternoon in Millbrook, NY

Last Friday DD had the day off from school, so I asked her if there was anything she'd like to do.  She picked go to the park in Millbrook, which was great, because Millbrook is just my favorite little town.  (The name "Millbrook" may be sounding familiar to you because Natasha Richardson was buried here just a few days ago and it's been all over the news.)

This is the entrance to the "Tribute Gardens".  It's a beautiful and unique park.  At the very top is the playground.

There's a cool slide that DD likes, but she's always too scared to go down at full speed - she always "holds on" - see her little fingers up there at the top?

It is a tall slide though, see?

Besides the playground there are narrow sidewalks that wind and bend and run throughout the rest of the park.  DD loves to just walk all through the park following the "trails" - she leads, I follow.

It was horrendously cold and windy the day we were there, but in the summer when we come here, it is often a few degrees cooler than anywhere else - there is plenty of shade and usually a cool breeze.  It's just a lovely place to be.  Millbrook is a pretty safe town and so there are not usually suspicious or undesireable people in the park.  I've even seen police on bicycles come through now and then, to make a presence I suppose.  The one bad thing about the park is that in the off season the bathrooms are closed.  But that's ok - that gives us an excuse to walk into the village and use the bathrooms at Stewarts and grab an ice cream OR we go to the Merritt Bookstore and use the bathroom there and treat ourselves to a new book.  Millbrook is a special, happy place to me.  I can't believe DD loves it now too, that rocks!

Tomorrow I will take you into the village and show you a few of the sights, and tell you how I came to love Millbrook.

The end.

  1. I have a former business acquaintance (a Nature Conservancy scientist) who lives and works in Millbrook. it sounds like the village is a wonderful place like he is a wonderful gentleman.

  2. I'm with DD...I'd be a little nervous about going down the slide full speed too. :)
Looks like you both had a great day though...despite the cold weather. :)

  7. So awesome. Love it! My girlfriend got married in 1986 and we took pictures right at Tribute Gardens. That park wasn't as awesome when I lived there but it still rocked to us.

I read each and every comment, and though I don't always get a chance to respond, I enjoy reading (and pondering) what you have to say. Thanks for your 2 cents! :-)
