I don't know what's up with our scale - maybe all this weighing myself is stretching out the springs or something - but I got on and off at least 10 times. Sometimes it said I lost 2 lbs, then it would say I didn't lose anything, then it'd say I lost a pound. Over and over. So I'm going to average it out and claim the pound.
While Weight Watchers is a wonderful program, I wish they would develop a special "end game" for when you get down to 20 points. It is really difficult and discouraging to only have 20 points a day to eat. For me it's near impossible. That's 1,000 calories, people. Oh, but "whoa whoa whoa" - doctors will say you're not ever supposed to eat less than 1,200 calores a day - oh and "whoa whoa whoa" Weight Watchers will say that on their diet you DO get more than 20 points a day - you use some of your weekly "stash" to supplement that 20 points, so you really do get to eat more than 1,000 calories a day. Well THAT is a !#@%! fairytale. Unless you have no life and never celebrate any holidays or birthdays and NEVER go out to eat and NEVER want to splurge this is really very unrealistic. Because you see, if you use points from your "stash" to supplement your daily total then you are unable to save them up for a splurge! It is totally unrealistic for me to think that I can do this without splurges on special occasions. It is also totally unrealistic to eat 1,000 calories a day. It's a bad end game on Weight Watchers.
What's going to happen is that I will still lose weight, it will just be slower because I can't really manage to reduce my caloric intake quite as much as "they" want me to. (Think for a minute how little food 1,000 calories is! I am starving almost all day!) I just have to try my best and be patient. Which is fine really. But I wish Weight Watchers would maybe develop a strategy at the end and let you eat a little more but tell you it's going to go slow. Or discover that bee pollen or horse supplements or the Sham WOW! instantly takes off the last 10 pounds, you know, whatever. Something!
Weight Watchers is a great program, but I really think they need to work on this part of the program.
I'll try to get to "part two" of the previous post soon! :-D
The end.
Omg I know how you feel. I'm not doing Weight Watchers, just counting calories on my own, and I have such a hard time staying below 1,500!!! The only way that I can keep going (and not quit out of frustration) is to make my target between 1,500-2,000. So yes, slower weight loss for sure, but I might be able to keep it off (here's hoping).
ReplyDeleteHang in there :)
Ditto what Jeanne Elle said. I'm shooting at 1650 calories per day (and usually hit it). I've found that having salad in the house helps (with regular zesty Italian dressing at 80 calories/2tbsp), as well as pickles (about 5c each). Another thing generally is to eat lots of veggies. A whole bag of frozen broccoli has about 150 calories, maybe. So you can pig out on those and just a smallish portion of meat/starch, but still feel full (though beano may also be a good idea to cut the gas).
ReplyDeleteBut also knowing the upper part of the range, and being willing to accept slower weight loss doesn't hurt either.
FWIW, I usually have a splurge day where I pretty much eat whatever (within reason though) and I figure, even if I go over by 1000 calories, since 1650 is 600 less than my upper range, it's less than two days to make it up. Obviously if your upper range is lower, it may take longer. Plus, they say that a splurge day will reset the little switch in your body that tells it that it is starving, so your metabolism doesn't crash because of the reduced calorie intake.
I can't imagine trying to get by on 1000 calories... Ok, I can, but I wouldn't like it, but I can't imagine that 1000 calories/day is a good idea.
19 lbs lighter than I was in Feb. Now that I've done this so far, I'm a firm believer in the calorie counting method. There's a law/grace analogy in my head somewhere to describe it.
This is another reason you should go to at least a few meetings...I know, I know, you don't want to hear it, but...
ReplyDeleteThere are things called "set points" that are similar to the core program, where you eat as much as you can stuff into yourself of "filling foods", and they're worth a maximum number of points...sometimes 5, sometimes 6...this is beef, chicken, veggies, fruits, whole grains, etc. So you don't have to starve, you don't have to use your extra points during the week, and you can go for a longer period of time.
