More Thoughts Too Short for a Whole Blog Post
Have you ever gotten a funny word when you're leaving a comment and you have to type in some weird combo of letters to prove you're human (like captcha)? I get a kick out of the "words" they make, so I saved a bunch of the ones I've gotten lately - may fave is "mosemo":

I am too scared to ever try a diet pill. I'll just be fat if it comes down to it.
I recently signed up to get an email every morning from Chuck Swindoll (Insight For Living) and I really love these daily doses of Christian insights. They're not too long to read but they always make me stop and think. A good way to start my day. If you're interested, here's the link: Insight for Living
Speaking of Christian things... To the particular segment of Christian homeschoolers out there who feel compelled to insult and make fun of those of us who went to public school and / or send our children to public school: maybe you didn't cover it in your schooling, but there's something called The Golden Rule which states to treat others as you'd like to be treated. It's a biblical principle, by the way, in case you didn't know. Matthew 7:9-12 "So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you, for this sums up the Law and the Prophets." And call me crazy but I think this verse just might apply too - the one about loving your neighbor as yourself from Mark 12:30-31: "Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength. The second is this: Love your neighbor as yourself. There is no commandment greater than these." I'm pretty sure you wouldn't like me to make rude comments about homeschooling nor would you like me to make fun of your children - why is it ok to do that to me? Since when is making fun of others you consider lesser than yourselves a Christian principle? I would LOVE for someone to justify this to me! If you feel that passionately, you should consider praying for those in public school and their parents instead of insulting them - that seems to me, a publicly schooled ignoramous myself, to be a lot more in line with what Jesus would have us do and probably more productive. (And fyi this is coming from someone who has the utmost respect for homeschooling, mind you.)
(Wow, I guess that one could have been a whole blog post.)
Who doesn't love the happy summer smell of lighter fluid on charcoal?
DD and I have very fair skin so we spend a good portion of the summer applying sunscreen to ourselves, which to me is a giant pain in the butt, but very important. I wish I had a booth similar to what I believe is used for spray on tans - you could just step in, whoosh, and get covered from head to toe in 5 seconds with sunscreen.
Moo Cow is sitting here next to me and she says to say, "Hi!" to you all. Moo Cow *is* homeschooled, by the way.
The End.

I applaud you on your insight into "good Christian people" who seem to act in the very opposite way Jesus would. I appreciate your comments on that. As a member of the oft hated Catholic faith, I have many times been scrutinized for being Catholic by "Christians" who seem to believe that Catholics are stupid, damned, and evil and can not have a personal relationship with God and be saved...AND that Catholics are not Christians and have a bad influence on the "good Christian people". I lost my best friend when she married a man with these views, so I'm a little bitter, if you can't tell. I suppose they also think those who attend public school can not be saved. I dunno. I don't believe that sequestering yourself among people who think exactly as you do is a Christian thing to do...look who Jesus hung out with. Knowing that you are a good Christian woman WITH NO QUOTATION MARKS who does truly live as Jesus taught, I think your comment of "pray for us" is right on Girlfriend! And now I'm going to put together my barbecue, thinking about the smell of lighter fluid. The End. :) Conalo! (my captcha)
whooeee,.. must be the day for it. i posted similar comments on a forum this a.m. re: Kristine's friend, sad that she didn't stand up for herself and their friendship. That man sounds like a tyrant! I'm just me,... public school lapsed Catholic who tries to live a good, ethical and kind life every day.
Don't have children and was not raised in US nor Catholic so I cannot even comment on that one :o)
But I have a pretty fair skin as well. I'm going to get my first spray-on tan on Friday. Going to my cousin's wedding this Saturday & have a halter dress. I need some color on my shoulders :o)
I agree, those capcha things are funny! I like it when they just seem to "fit" the person. Like last night I was adding a Facebook friend who is my cousin, and he loves to race sports cars, etc. The words I had to put in the box were "roarin cars". I laughed out loud!
Sorry about the homeschooler issue. I am passionate about homeschooling, but its because its right for MY family, and I know it. I'm careful not to attack/question anybody else. I used to teach in public schools, so I do have strong opinions, but every school is different, every family has different needs, and every parent makes tough decisions about what to do with education. Its so cool that one of my friends is a public elem school principal, and we can totally respect each other and have great conversations! She knows I don't choose to put my kids in "her" school, and she could take it personally if she chose to, but instead she just adores my girls, thinks I am a great teacher, and compliments me on how they are doing. I think she is an awesome principal, and as a teacher I'd love to work under her, even. Sorry so rambling, Carole! Its just a great topic. And could be a whole blog post...I agree. :)
Great post. I like Charles Swindoll, and captchas are *awesome*. LOL.
Bravo on the homeschooling post.
:-) Well said.
My captcha here is diondpe. Perhaps we should have a contest to make up definitions of some of these "words"? :-)
Thanks for your nice comment on my blog today!
Ooh, I like QuietMom's idea.
Let's see:
hypenc: The misuse of the hyphen character as in the "word" de-generate (for all those confused, the word is degenerate).
squangsh: A vegetable, usually of the squash type, that grows malformed.
pestie: slang - used 'lovingly' to describe any unwanted critter or insect that might be in the house.
mosemo: Italian in origin - it is the word used be opera singers when warming up.
defersil: A chemical sprayed on flowers to keep pesties away.
solychyl: Contaminated soil found around a nuclear contamination site.
Good for you, and thanks for saying it. Being a good Protestant and a church employee for 10 years, I feel like I am allowed to say, "It's amazing how un-Christian some Christians can be."
I like when people have many different topics within a post it's like having something for everyone. Tell Moo Cow hello back and to not forget Mother's Day.

I don't actually have the utmost respect for homeschooling. I badly wanted to home school my kids when we lived in an area where they were being exposed to truly terrible things.
But I would estimate that 80% of of the homeschooled kids I've known (in 4 states over the past 9 years) have had SEVERE deficits in their academics or social skills. In many of these cases mom is homeschooling because she has an anxiety disorder and she's teaching the kids to be scared of everything, too. About half of these moms are also clinically depressed from being in the house with all those kids, alone, all the time - which I think is why the schooling was falling by the wayside.
This is not to say I haven't seen some real powerhouses of homeschooling - I have. But they have been few & far between.
And I agree about the Christian thing. Sometimes I think that this is why we are such a laughing stock to most of the world. We're terrible hypocrites, as a rule.
I probably shouldn't say anything, but it's in part because of narrow-minded, holier-than-thou attitudes like you describe that I do not "do" religion. That and the wars.
tiesse: (ty-ee'-se) noun; an easy to form decorative knot.
I also don't like holier-than-thou Christians. Neither did Jesus. He didn't look very highly on the Pharisees.
I would say that I do homeschool, and it's more of the reverse that I experience- people who are judgmental about my choice to homeschool. A lot of stereotyping. And I hate when reality t.v. shows like Wife Swap has homeschoolers on. They're always the ones that are terribly behind academically and socially. My kindergartner is doing third grade level math and 1st grade language arts. And she certainly isn't a hermit! We do a lot of social activities, and she's the most popular girl in the neighborhood! ;)
And my verification for this post is gaoderi. ;)
And P.S., I'm a public-schooled ignoramus, too! ;) I think I turned out alright, but what is it saying about those people who think I'm not educated enough to teach my own children? ;P
