Sometimes You Really Should Send a Real Card

Have you been sent an "evite" to something yet?  You know, I'm all for trying to save trees and time and money, and I personally love online greeting cards (they are such an easy way to brighten someone's day) but there are times when you really should just send a real card.  I've gotten a couple of "evites" to a couple of events I thought were somewhat formal-ish, and I'm sorry, but it just seems cheesy and impersonal to me.  An evite to a home party or a BBQ or a birthday party - fine.  But I even heard that people are now sending online invitations to weddings.  Really?  Wow.  And please, there should not even be such a thing as an online sympathy card.  I'm sorry - sometimes you should just take the time and spend the money on a real card and a stamp!

However, I bumped into a site called Big Heart Cards that is actually a very clever idea I think - it's the convenience of online greeting cards because you do it all online, but then they actually print out your card and message and mail an actual paper card or invitation for you!  Now THAT is the perfect solution for the lazy/busy/forgetful person!

I wish I would come up with good ideas like that.  I was watching that new show "Pitchman" last night on Discovery with Billy Mays and Anthony Sullivan and they were at an inventor's convention and the ideas people had come up with amazed me!  There was some guy who invented this harness thing that enabled a person to lift great amounts of weight easily.  I was definitely not born to be an inventor.  I do like to watch informercials for gadgets though.  However, luckily I rarely buy stuff like that except I did buy a "sweepa" at our county fair last year, and it actually is fantastic.

Have you ever bought anything from an infomercial?  Or been invited to a wedding with an evite?

The end.

  1. I've never been invited to a wedding via evite...but I was invited to a housewarming party with one. That seemed acceptable, but I'm with you Carole - when it comes to formal-ish events, I think a real invite card would be more appropriate.
My daughter bought those ShamWow cloths that they advertise on those infomercials...and she really likes them. They seem to work really well.

  2. I bought Pilates on DVD a few years back. But that's it.
My Bachelorette's party was an e-vite. That was appropriate I think. Off to check that site :o)

  3. When my son was very young, he had to have that abdominal belt they sold on TV. You just wear it and your abdomen magically gets smaller. We could not talk him out of it. Those people should have been embarrassed to sell such a thing, but I guess there are a lot of suckers out there.

As for evites, the nice thing is if you lose it, it's still there on the computer.

  5. One time I was in the hospital and they had QVC there. I don't have cable at home, so this was kind of new and fun. Well they had these gourmet caramel apples featured, and oh boy I wanted them soooo bad. I called a girlfriend, and had her order me a box! They were great too. But ohhhwowie, expensive. LOL.

  8. I hate to say it, but yeah, we got an evite to a baby's 1st birthday/going away party and it bugged me. But I think it may have more to do with my perception of the relationship than anything else concrete.

The guy who invented the Snuggie is a like...a jillionaire.

  10. Being in a rural area I have been caught short on sympathy cards at times. I usually keep several on hand. In a case like that when a card isn't available an ecard is ok in my book,...I have done it once or twice,... but for the most part I agree that a real card with real handwriting is the way it should be. Time to go shopping and re-stock my supply!

  11. No to both, but for some reason I at one point I had co-workers who all bought stuff from infomercials regularly - apparently those bags that are suppose to collapse and suck all the air out for storage bust really easy.
I tagged you on my blog if you want to play along.

  12. I once worked at a home shopping channel called Q2, based in NYC - an upscale off-shoot of QVC ... and I actually did some on-air stuff now and then. LOL

I read each and every comment, and though I don't always get a chance to respond, I enjoy reading (and pondering) what you have to say. Thanks for your 2 cents! :-)
