Pooh's Thoughtful Spot is located halfway between Pooh's house and Piglet's original house. It is protected from the wind and is a good spot for "deciding what to do today". This spot right here is my "thoughtful spot".

This Takes Genealogy to a Whole New Level

If you're a regular reader, you may recall I've mentioned I've been working on and off on the family genealogy.  In my searching, I discovered that you can actually explore your ancestry dna!  How crazy is this?  Apparently you can do test on either maternal lineage or paternal lineage.  If you're a woman you can only submit your DNA for the maternal lineage test, but if you want to do the paternal also, you can have a father or a brother submit their DNA for that test.  Interesting, huh?  From studying the swab of DNA you send in, they can supposedly determine the geographic origins of your ancestors and even their migration.  You get a report and everything with lots of other info.  It's pretty expensive, but maybe I'll ask for something like that as a gift sometime - I'm pretty fascinated by this.

Our family is mostly all from Europe / Eastern Europe, so I guess I'd be pretty shocked if the test results came back showed we initially came from somewhere else.  I recently watched a set of six DVDs when I was deathly ill over Easter about the Celts, I think I like to believe that they were my ancestors.

The end.

Rebecca (and anyone else interested), the DVDs on the Celts I watched I got through our library and here is the info: The Celts: rich traditions and ancient myths / a BBC-TV production in association with FR3 Bretagne-Pays de Loire and Österreichischer Rundfunk ; written by Frank Delaney ; produced by Tony McAuley ; directed by David Richardson. ISBN: 0790787083. It was extremely interesting, but also very long (I think about 6 hours total). I'm not sure I could have gotten through the entire thing had I not been sick and stuck on the couch, but I am glad I had that opportunity to watch the whole thing.

I've got my mom's dad's line all the way to the 1500 - we are originally from Prussia. Interesting, I'm going to check into the ancestry dna bit.

My wife bought the DNA test for me as a Christmas gift. The results were worth the cost. Our family came to America from England in 1634.

I love researching our genealogy! I've traced my grandmother's side back to the 1400s and other lines back (just not as far). One of my ancestors was born in a castle (but not to the king, BAH!) and another was born on a ship in the middle of the Atlantic. I discovered that my husband is descended from an admiral in the British Royal Navy who was knighted by King Charles II in 1675. We even found a portrait of him (the ancestor, not King Charles, lol) on the web. Of course my husband teased me that he has loftier ancestors than I do...argh! Just kidding, lol.

The DNA tests sound fascinating, don't they? I've heard that some have been shocked by the results because the DNA shows they don't belong to the family they thought they did.
