I was browsing through the cookbook I got at the World's Largest Garage Sale (post here) and I must say I have been highly entertained by some of the pictures. I was pondering why someone would even think of barbecuing in a wheelbarrow and the only real reason I could come up with as to why this would be a good idea is that it's very portable. You could go from house to house all over the neighborhood with your BBQ. Want to grill some burgers at the neighbors but they don't have a grill? No problem if you have a BBQ in a wheelbarrow! Much better than one of those bulky Weber grills that everyone keeps on their deck.
Here's a nice little luncheon spread complete with mystery meat in square bowls and perhaps the fattiest ham sandwich I have ever seen! I'm sorry, but if I were photographing food for a cookbook, that wouldn't be the slice of ham I would have picked. Usually cookbooks make you want to eat, but I think I'd rather go buy office supplies or something. :-O
The end.
The food photography in thoseg old cookbooks is always interesting. I think the things that passed as 'gourmet' faire back then are hilarious!
ReplyDeleteThat ham sandwich looks like something Grams would have made with leftover ham before she made the bone into split pea soup. :)
ReplyDeletebbq in a wheelbarrow is an awesome idea. I have no luck with grills. The last gas one I had caught fire (through no fault of my own?)I'm gonna try that next summer. Wheelbarrow is much cheaper than a grill.
