Enjoying our Stay in Lake George on the Cheap

When we were in Lake George last weekend we stayed at a motel that we have never stayed at.  We called too late to get a room at the place we usually stay (The Sundowner), so we booked a room at this other place instead. The nightly rate was only $48/night. Normally I'd be pretty fearful of staying in a $48/night motel because that is VERY cheap for places around here, but we had reason to believe it would be ok.  And it actually was fine.  For $48/night.  It had the loudest plumbing I've ever heard in a hotel, the traffic going by literally sounded like it was just outside the door, and it also had the flush-the-toilet-shower-turns-scalding-hot feature, but it was clean and modern, had a fridge and hairdryer, and it was in a good location - you can walk into the village, and although it's not on Lake George, you can walk across the street to a small beach right on the lake in about 30 seconds.  They had a very nice looking pool, too.

They also had a very nice terrace, so after going to the World's Largest Garage Sale in Warrensburg, we decided to sit on the terrace and watch the traffic go by.  It was more interesting than you'd think. We saw everything from trolleys, to motorcycles, to fire engines to San Jose motorcycle accident attorneys go by.  I really didn't even smell any exhaust - I think the fresh pine air of the Adirondacks was a natural "air freshener". :-)

(This shot is looking down the road into Lake George Village)

A couple of beers and a copy of the Lake George Mirror made it even more enjoyable.  (Check out the light blue 1950's lounge chair!)

Now you might think it just can't get better than this, but how about a nice, hot, greasy pizza with pepperoni and onions delivered right to the motel from Capri Pizza?

Something that I think is great about my husband and myself as a couple is that we can find a way to have a good time no matter where we are or what we're doing, whether we have a lot of money to spend or barely any at all.  I'm sure sitting in 1950s plastic chairs, drinking beer, eating pizza out of the box watching traffic go by is not what everyone would find "fun", but we had a blast. :-D

The end.

  2. I really kind of like that whole area - Lake George, the outlets (love that new Coleman outlet), Warrensburg. What a great find. Like you, we were always sort of afraid of the little cheapy motels, and usually stayed at the Days Inn (which is something else now). You're a pioneer! We'll try this place at some point.

  3. Wherever we are we have a good time too, so long as we're together. Just being with my husband absolutely anywhere is wonderful. :)

I read each and every comment, and though I don't always get a chance to respond, I enjoy reading (and pondering) what you have to say. Thanks for your 2 cents! :-)
