Christmas 2009
For many, many years our general "system" for dividing time between our families for the holidays has been that whichever family we spend Easter with, we spend Christmas with the other. (We usually host Thanksgiving ourselves to which both families are invited. Not everyone from either side always comes, which is totally understandable, so Thanksgiving is always a toss up of who we get to see.)
This year we spent Easter with my husband's family, so we anticipated celebrating Christmas with my side of the family. My brother and sister-in-law have nearly always had Christmas at their house, whether they have a big crowd or small crowd. This year they invited my Dad, but we were not invited. My husband's family hadn't thought to invite us for Christmas Day, because they also assumed as we did, that we'd be spending it with my side of the family, since we spent Easter with them.
So we spent Christmas at home, just the three of us, for the first time ever. We played the Wii my Dad gave us all day.
The end.

It might be the best time ever!
ReplyDeleteMerry Christmas
ReplyDeleteI hope you enjoyed every moment! A few years ago, we didn't have anywhere to go at Thanksgiving, and I was bummed out. My parents were out of town, and I didn't want to go out of town, so we stayed home. Well guess what, it turned out to be absolutely wonderful and special. God sure blessed us, and turned my attitude around too. I was pleasantly surprised at how much I loved it. I hope you did too. :)
ReplyDeleteSorry you weren't invited to be with the family. Weird!
ReplyDeleteStill, it looks like there was no shortage of fun to be had. We stayed home this Christmas Eve for the first time in our married lives. It was so fun to just be us and the kids. We don't go anywhere on Christmas Day. The older generation visits the families with kids instead so the children and their toys will not be separated.
I got a Wii-Fit for Xmas and I'm loving it!! It certainly unites us as we laugh at each other!
ReplyDeleteAs an expat, we don't really spend holidays with our families anymore. Maybe next year...
