I also don't like holier-than-thou Christians. Neither did Jesus. He didn't look very highly on the Pharisees.

I would say that I do homeschool, and it's more of the reverse that I experience- people who are judgmental about my choice to homeschool. A lot of stereotyping. And I hate when reality t.v. shows like Wife Swap has homeschoolers on. They're always the ones that are terribly behind academically and socially. My kindergartner is doing third grade level math and 1st grade language arts. And she certainly isn't a hermit! We do a lot of social activities, and she's the most popular girl in the neighborhood! ;)

I don't actually have the utmost respect for homeschooling. I badly wanted to home school my kids when we lived in an area where they were being exposed to truly terrible things.

But I would estimate that 80% of of the homeschooled kids I've known (in 4 states over the past 9 years) have had SEVERE deficits in their academics or social skills. In many of these cases mom is homeschooling because she has an anxiety disorder and she's teaching the kids to be scared of everything, too. About half of these moms are also clinically depressed from being in the house with all those kids, alone, all the time - which I think is why the schooling was falling by the wayside.

This is not to say I haven't seen some real powerhouses of homeschooling - I have. But they have been few & far between.

And I agree about the Christian thing. Sometimes I think that this is why we are such a laughing stock to most of the world. We're terrible hypocrites, as a rule.

I agree, those capcha things are funny! I like it when they just seem to "fit" the person. Like last night I was adding a Facebook friend who is my cousin, and he loves to race sports cars, etc. The words I had to put in the box were "roarin cars". I laughed out loud!

Sorry about the homeschooler issue. I am passionate about homeschooling, but its because its right for MY family, and I know it. I'm careful not to attack/question anybody else. I used to teach in public schools, so I do have strong opinions, but every school is different, every family has different needs, and every parent makes tough decisions about what to do with education. Its so cool that one of my friends is a public elem school principal, and we can totally respect each other and have great conversations! She knows I don't choose to put my kids in "her" school, and she could take it personally if she chose to, but instead she just adores my girls, thinks I am a great teacher, and compliments me on how they are doing. I think she is an awesome principal, and as a teacher I'd love to work under her, even. Sorry so rambling, Carole! Its just a great topic. And could be a whole blog post...I agree. :)

Don't have children and was not raised in US nor Catholic so I cannot even comment on that one :o)

But I have a pretty fair skin as well. I'm going to get my first spray-on tan on Friday. Going to my cousin's wedding this Saturday & have a halter dress. I need some color on my shoulders :o)

I applaud you on your insight into "good Christian people" who seem to act in the very opposite way Jesus would. I appreciate your comments on that. As a member of the oft hated Catholic faith, I have many times been scrutinized for being Catholic by "Christians" who seem to believe that Catholics are stupid, damned, and evil and can not have a personal relationship with God and be saved...AND that Catholics are not Christians and have a bad influence on the "good Christian people". I lost my best friend when she married a man with these views, so I'm a little bitter, if you can't tell. I suppose they also think those who attend public school can not be saved. I dunno. I don't believe that sequestering yourself among people who think exactly as you do is a Christian thing to do...look who Jesus hung out with. Knowing that you are a good Christian woman WITH NO QUOTATION MARKS who does truly live as Jesus taught, I think your comment of "pray for us" is right on Girlfriend!
